The Indianapolis Jazz Foundation will present its Holiday Extravaganza Saturday, Dec. 9 in the ballroom of the Madame Walker Theatre Center, 617 Indiana Ave. The evening will feature appearances by pianist Monika Herzig and American Pianist Association’s artistic director Joel Harrison along with IJF scholarship winner Olivia Holloway. The evening’s featured performance will welcome back legendary Indy jazz vocalist Paula Owen & Friends. Hosting the event will be Mary Moss and myself.
A highlight of the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation’s Holiday Extravaganza is the induction of nominees into its Jazz Hall of Fame.
This is a benefit evening for the Jazz for Kidz Program. A silent auction and unique holiday gifts are scheduled on the program.
Holiday Extravaganza runs from 5 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. The program includes a buffet dinner and show. • Singer/guitarist Daniel A. Young is running a busy schedule. Friday, Dec. 1 he will perform standards at Bread Ladies, 5 American Legion Place in Greenfield, in a free concert from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays he can be heard at Brix Bistro, 65 S. First St., Zionsville, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.; no cover charge. Saturday, Dec 9 he returns to Deano’s Vino, 1112 S. Shelby St. in Fountain Square, from 8 to 11 p.m.; no cover charge. D.A. Young’s first jazz vocal CD of 10 standards, A Place to Dream, is completed, with arrangements by pianist Ken Fary and will be released in mid January 2007.
