Hoagy Carmichael statue to be unveiled at Indy Jazz Fest

Ian Fleming said he based James Bond’s appearance on this picture of Hoagy Carmichael, the great Hoosier songwriter, whose works comprise a major chapter in the Great American Songbook. Revered by music makers from Bing Crosby to Keith Richards, Carmichael will be further immortalized with a life-size sculpture by Michael McAuley. The sculpture will be unveiled at the Indy Jazz Fest presented by Kroger in June and permanently installed in Carmichael’s hometown, Bloomington. The statue will also tour cities throughout the state. Cities wishing to participate in the tour can contact Maribel Fernandez at 812-330-8934 or e-mail info@hoagylandmark.org.
