1. IndyFringe

Through Aug. 23, times vary. 64 shows. 8 venues. 384 performances. 11 days. Whew, that's a lot to take in. And you should go see as many shows as possible. And we'll be reviewing every single show. And those will be up faster than ever before. And they'll be awesome. And head to indyfringe.org for a complete rundown of shows. And....break.

2. WAMM Fest

Aug. 15, 11 a.m. We here at NUVO love a good acronym, and this annual Southside fest has one that’s simple and straight to the point: W(ine) A(rt) M(usic) M(icrobrew). Damn. Those are literally all of the things that we like. A bit more on the M(usic) bit: Exit 99, Hairbangers Ball, HT3 Band, Indy Nile, Toy Factory and Blue River Band will all play. And this one-day fest is stacked in the food and drink category with hard hitters like Mallow Run and Oliver Wineries, Quaff On! and Oaken Barrel breweries, and Whiskey River BBQ. Stop by and say HI to the NUVO Street Team who will be on site.

3. Tour de Upland

Aug. 14-16, times vary. You bike as much or as little as you like. You drink beer. You camp. You rinse (maybe). And you repeat. IS THIS AWESOME OR IS THIS AWESOME?

4. Chris Brown

Aug. 15, 7 p.m. Has Chris Brown been for forgiven for his (admittedly horrible) acts off stage? We'll let you decide that one. But it's hard to argue against his career in the studio and on stage. He'll headline this massive hip-hop concert at Klipsch. And the rest of the bill? Yeah, it's stacked: Kid Ink, Omarion, Migos, Fetty Wap and Teyana Taylor. Be here or be sad.

5. Ultimate Beer Run: Indianapolis

Aug. 15, 11 a.m. It's a weekend for beers and exercise. The Ultimate Beer Run takes running to a whole new level. Registrants run/walk one mile while being treated to a craft beer each 1/4 mile lap! After the run, participants are invited back to the afterparty including music, games, giveaways, food trucks, and —of course — more beer!

6. IMA Summer Nights Film Series: The Big Lebowski

Aug. 14, 7 p.m. One of the Coen brothers’ best films, this comedy is as breezy and beguiling as its hero — a devil-may-care dude played to perfection by Jeff Bridges. Mistaken for a millionaire and roped into a ransom plot, “the Dude” enlists his bowling buddies to help him through the ordeal. Wildly hilarious and pure of heart, this film is like cinematic chicken soup for the soul.

For IMA’s outdoor screening (YAY GOOD WEATHER), attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters, show off their bowling skills, and enjoy beer and food from Sun King and King David Dogs.

7. Creeping Pink Record Release Show

Aug. 14, 10 p.m. Here are some facts listed in quick order: 1) Landon Caldwell of Burnt Ones is back in Indianapolis. 2) He books State Street Pub now. 3) His other project, Creeping Pink, is excellent. 4) That project has a brand new release called Mirror Woods on Castle Face Records. 5) Jorma Whittaker will play at this show (his last performance of the year?). 6) There will be tacos from Love Handle Taco Shoppe in the State Street Pub Parking Lot. 7) This show will kick ass.

8. Slipknot, Lamb of God, Bullet For My Valentine

Aug. 14, 7 p.m. Is this summer's last stand? We really really really hope not — stay away winter. Anyways, this IS the Summer's Last Stand tour with heavy metal mainstays Slipknot and Lamb of God. Openers Bullet For My Valentine have an album dropping on THIS day so get there early to hear it live for the first time.

9. Indianapolis Indians vs. Durham Bulls

Aug 14-16, times vary. If you haven't noticed, I'm featuring A LOT of events that are taking place outside. The weather is supposed to be a-mazing this weekend and I encourage you to take full advantage of this rare opportunity. There's a doubleheader on Friday — with great fireworks afterwards — The Famous Chicken makes an appearance on Saturday and kids eat free (a hot dog, bag of chips and bottle of water) on Sunday. See you out at Victory Field.

10. The Naptown Scene

Through Aug. 31, times vary. Longtime NUVO photographer and Indy jazz scene stalwart Mark Sheldon showcases Indy’s most famous (and best) musicians in two-D form.
