Computer animated comedy/musical/adventure from George Miller, the man behind both Babe and the Mad Max series. The story is about a young penguin ostracized because, instead of singing like the other penguins, he insists on dancing. The visuals are dazzling, the cinematography is dramatic, the songs are well-chosen, the dance numbers are impressively choreographed and most of the jokes are fine. There is a lot to admire here, but after a spiffy beginning, the movie gets ponderous — the messages are laid on too thick and the epic adventures drag. Luckily, the production regains its footing (ahem) towards the end. 108 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes two new animated sequences, a Savion Glover dance lesson, two music videos and a classic cartoon.
