Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre surveyed its audiences in order to discover which pieces they’d like to see assembled into one evening of dance. The result is Encore, a kind of greatest hits package that assembles seven short pieces from previous productions, along with a new piece, “Imagine,” that recently received its world premiere at the 11th International Baltic Ballet Festival in Riga, Latvia. The other pieces will include “Out of Darkness,” an abstract dance about the existence of angels; “The River’s Edge,” set to the music of Bedrich Smetana; “1968,” a marionette dance based on events of the “Prague Spring”; “Trail of Tears,” about the forced evacuation of Cherokee Indians; “The Two Fridas,” inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo; and “The Visit,” performed by the GHDT student dance ensemble.
Encore will be presented June 16-17 at 8 p.m. at the Pike Performing Arts Center, 5401 W. 71st St. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Pike box office at 317-216-5455 or online at www.pikepac.org. GHDT will still honor season ticket holders from the former Ballet Internationale.
