Great music, great cause

Indy Rocks for Indy Pit Crew
Saturday, Oct. 28, 7 p.m.

Seven great bands are coming together Saturday night to play a benefit for one of the city’s most dedicated advocacy groups, Indy Pit Crew, bringing music fans and pit bull lovers together in support of one of the most abused and misunderstood breeds of dogs.

Local favorite and breakout band Stereo Deluxe will share the bill with a great lineup of musical talent, including Phyllis, The Oddlots, The Common, Tommy Flake, Lines of Nazca and Atomic Bombay.

The benefit concert aims to raise awareness and much needed funding for the ongoing efforts of Indy Pit Crew, a non-profit group of local advocates who work through education and community outreach to combat dog fighting, eliminate Pit Bill over-population and educate the public about the realities and joys of the breed, in the hope of dispelling damaging myths while inspiring a better understanding and appreciation of Pit Bulls.

The show at Birdy’s rounds out a full day of events aimed at promoting a positive image for Bully Breeds, including the Luv-A-Bully March in support of breeds such as the American Pit Bull terrier, the American Staffordshire terrier and the Staffordshire bull terrier. The rally and march will be held downtown on Monument Circle on Saturday, Oct. 28, in conjunction with marches held around the country.

The march, hosted by Indy Pit Crew, will start and end at Monument Circle, passing Veterans Memorial Park. A canine costume contest will follow with prizes from Three Dog Bakery awarded to first, second and third place. Professional dog trainers will also be on hand to give owners helpful tips.
