Coinciding with this year’s annual Gallery Walk on Friday, Sept. 10 from 5-9 p.m., area dance groups will offer arts enthusiasts the opportunity to dance their way along the Massachusetts Avenue gallery strip. Dancity, the brainchild of Hilary McDaniel-Douglas and Linda Vanderkolk, celebrates the interaction between visual art and performance art as local dance groups will be performing in a diversity of styles. You may be waltzed, tangoed, swung, tap-danced or belly-danced from one gallery to the next. Other merchants along the avenue will open their doors to accommodate the dancers — and you!
Sponsored by the Riley Area Development Corporation, Dancity’s roster of dance groups include IUPUI Moving Company, Footworks Company from Shortridge Middle School, IN to Salsa, Iibada Dance Company, IU Contemporary Dance Program, Susurrus, Indy Social Dance, Park Tudor Dance Program and an improvised performance by Project IN Motion. A stage, located on the 500 block of Mass. Ave, will offer the various dance groups a proscenium for performance as they take a break from their site-specific steps. In addition, Vanderkolk and Patricia Wildhack will be painting the sidewalks along the Gallery Walk with the site’s specific dance step to help you put each foot in its proper place.
