The third film by Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up
) is an ambitious comedy/drama about a famous comedian (Adam Sandler) forced to dealt with his own mortality. Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Leslie Mann and Eric Bana costar. Many reviewers complained that the nearly two-and-a-half-hour film loses its way when the road trip starts. Can't argue with that, but there's still a lot to recommend here. The look at the world of stand-up comics is interesting, the relationship between Sandler and Rogen's characters is fascinating and the acting is terrific, especially from Sandler, doing his best work ever here. The mix of drama and typical Apatow comedy (lots of dick jokes but the guys are comedians, so what do you expect?) may be off-putting to some. I enjoyed myself, even (to a lesser degree) during the road trip. 146 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes a commentary track with Apatow, Sandler and Rogen, a gag reel and deleted, extended and alternate scenes.
