Two stars (PG-13)
Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest
The latest ensemble comedy from Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) doesn’t use the mockumentary format, but it still has the same basic feel as his other films, with a large, impressive cast delivering a quirky mix of absurdist humor and satire. This one is a rather tired affair dealing with movie-making and the frenzy for awards. There are some standout performances (O’Hara, Fred Willard, John Michael Higgins), but there is little here that hasn’t been better addressed in other insider showbiz comedies. 86 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes a commentary track by Guest and Levy, 18 deleted/alternate scenes and outtakes, plus a poster gallery.
