Jack's Donuts
Northerners and Greenfielders, rejoice! Jack's Donuts is a family-owned business that has been slinging massive, pillowy donuts for decades. They'll make you a giant birthday donut or maybe something with candy and sprinkles on top. The platter-size airy sweets will soon make the move to downtown, possibly as early as fall. We'll keep tabs on them and let you know as soon as you can get some Jack's in the 465 loop.

Square Donuts
Yep, they’re literally square. This geometric donut shop has been in business since 1967, making it one of the original offbeat sweet producers. The slogan is, of course, “Never cut corners,” an ethos that is both cheeky and indicative of the high quality donuts coming out of the bakery at Square Donuts. The cutting machine that they use stamps out the square donut and hole in a dough-efficient sheet, which means less waste. No surprise, then, that with such an economically ingenious concept, Square donuts has expanded across the city and the state. Check the website for all the locations.

GadCo
Indy’s first craft donut shop was a huge hit from the first day, and with good reason. These guys turn out creative, flavorful donuts with combinations of maple and bacon, French toast, cookies ‘n’ cream, mocha, and so many, many more. These are definitely single-donut-only kind of pastries, with fillings of custard and jelly. They’re also a little pricier than your average donut shop, but that shouldn’t sway you from giving them a try. If you need recommendations, check out our review here.

Long’s Donuts
The simple, golden-and glazed rings are perfect. They’ve always been perfect. They’ll continue to be perfect. [CASH ONLY]

The Donut Shop
There aren’t a lot of places in Indianapolis that regularly have lines out the door. The Donut Shop is the exception, with an unassuming store front and a few tables lining the walls, and folks queued up all the way to the parking lot on most weekends. Once the crowds die down a little, the donut become half price as the day gets closer to closing time, and everything in the case is phenomenal. Have a seat inside the basic dining room and enjoy hot plates of eggs, bacon and all the other traditional favorites. Service is always a little slow, but you’ll quickly forgive them after your first of many donuts.

Rocket 88
Now, Indy has a lot of amazing donut shops, I realize, but there is an ideal "butter zone" between price, quality, and creativity that Rocket 88 totally nails. They have all the old classics you could ever want, plus inventive new ones like Vanilla Chai, and none of the 'nuts go for more than $2.25. While I'd still recommend one of the old stalwarts if all you want is a box of plain glazed for a few bucks, this new Fountain Square spot is the new home of the destination craft donut without the huge price tag. You can also grab a cup of the custom-roasted Mile Square coffee created just for the shop in a continuation of the great symbiosis between brewed beans and fried dough. Grab an Assorted dozen for a 20-spot, or get a dressed-down box with all the classics for $15.

The Dancing Donut
From the folks who brought us the Flying Cupcake now comes the Dancing Donut. You can grab the traditional flavors plus the occasional craziness, like a donut smothered in sausage gravy, aka, the Dirty Donut.
