Duet for Guitars #2 (reissue)

M. Ward
Merge Records

Four stars

Current king of the hushed troubadour movement, M. Ward’s solo career dates back to Duet For Guitars #2, his long out-of-print and widely unheard debut, recently reissued by Merge Records. Arriving with a fully-backed vision, Ward’s album is surprisingly catchy songwriter fare. Literate phrasing strung together by wonderfully ailing vocals rarely sounds this uplifting.

Sounds like: Sufjan Stevens, Damien Jurado, Iron & Wine
