Over 5,000 musicians and performers will converge on Lucas Oil Stadium for the Drum Corps International 2009 World Championships Aug. 6-8. The Championships is the culmination of more than 100 events that took place across the nation as part of the annual Drum Corps International Tour June through mid-August. The participating drum corps are comprised of up to 150 brass musicians, percussionists and dance performers/color guard ages 14-22. Forty-one performances will take place over the three-day event featuring eclectic musical arrangements, from classical, jazz, pop and rock music, from Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Barber to Coldplay and Evanescence.
Competing ensembles include the 2008 defending World Champion Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Ill.; Holy Name Cadets of Allentown, Pa.; Carolina Crown of Fort Mill, S.C.; The Cavaliers of Rosemont, Ill.; Blue Devils of Concord, Calif.; Santa Clara Vanguard of Santa Clara, Calif.; Madison Scouts of Madison, Wis.; Crossmen of San Antonio, Texas; and Boston Crusaders of Boston, Mass.
Performances begin Aug. 5, 11 a.m. with Individual & Ensemble Competition at the Indiana Convention Center, which is free to watch. At the Lucas Oil Stadium, World Class Quarterfinals are Aug. 6, Open Class Semifinals and World Class Semifinals are Aug. 7 and Finals are Aug. 8 ($15-$125).
