Does This Show Make My Butt Look Fat?

In the recipe for a good show, opening with a hilarious jazzy version of "I Like Big Butts" and closing the first act with brownies for the audience seem like winning ingredients. But, even Juli (Juli Inskeep), dessert lover and narrator of this one-woman show, knows that it's not just the chocolate coating, but the filling in between that makes a tasty treat. Does This Show Make My Butt Look Fat? has the shell of a witty social comedy, but lacks the substance to make it sincere. A few amusing fat metaphors are sandwiched by random tangents and sad stories about unsympathetic family members. In the end, Juli tells us that it's OK for a woman to have a big butt, because "the only thing that matters is the love that she gave and the people that she helped." Unfortunately, this lacks credibility coming from a character that spends the show demeaning herself and rudely snapping at her maid (including a not-funny green card threat). If playwright Joni Hilton was going for ironic, she nailed it, but this show is unfortunately not that self-aware. Through May 2; 317-637-8687,
