If Black Friday's orgy of cheap, sweatshop-produced goods turns you off, try something alternative this year. The Alternative Gift Fair is presented by Earth House Lockerbie UMC Nov. 29, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Local artists, craft makers, organic farmers and small retailers will be selling their Indiana goods, from homemade drums, books by local writers, CDs by local b ands, paintings, jewelry, maple syrup and even goat milk soap. Plus, you can make donations to nonprofits in lieu of traditional gift-giving: $1.50 buys a mosquito net for a family in the Democratic Republic of Congo and $50 finances a micro-loan in Senegal. Ways to help out locally will also be featured. Get your nom on at the all-organic bake sale and try your luck at the raffle. Acoustic Christmas music will enhance the atmosphere and kids activities will keep the little ones entertained. For those who want the good feelings to keep flowing, a film, dinner and holiday concert begin at 4 p.m. For more information, call Earth House, 237 N. East St., at 317-637-2716.
