Dick Hebdige is the Greil Marcus of England, which is to say a highly readable, cutting-edge observer of contemporary culture. Hebdige will speak at the Indianapolis Museum of Art's Tobias Theater, April 23 at 7 p.m., on "After Love, After Punk: Takashi Murakami and the Contemporary Japanese Dreamscape." Hebdige uses Murakami's work to explore how ideas about youth culture, consumerism, sex and love have changed since Hebdige's book Subculture: The Meaning of Style
was published in 1979. Tickets are $6, members $3, students with ID $3. Go to www.imamuseum.org for more information. The IMA is located at 4000 Michigan Road.
