Don't let the recession limit you to the McDonald's Dollar Menu. Experience the downtown eatery you've been dying to try. Through Jan. 31, the Indianapolis Downtown Restaurant and Hospitality Association is sponsoring Devour Downtown Winterfest.
Back for its third winter season, Devour Downtown offers fantastic dining values for those familiar and unfamiliar with the Indianapolis culinary scene.
Reserve a table at one of the participating restaurants and enjoy a three-course meal for only $30 a person. The event allows diners to choose from over 30 restaurants, all members of the IDRHA, including Harry and Izzy's, St. Elmo Steak House, Vito's and The Oceanaire.
Each restaurant will provide a set menu featuring tasty choices that have proven to be crowd favorites. Lack of variety will not be an issue, with restaurants offering items that are sure to please beef, chicken and seafood eaters alike. Vegetarians are also accommodated with dishes such as Iaria's cheese tortellini or spinach ravioli, and P.F. Chang's spicy eggplant or vegetarian lettuce wraps.
"With the economy the way it is now, 30 bucks for what we give you is still a really good deal," said Scott Lewandowski, team training manager for the recently opened Scotty's Brewhouse.
He said the restaurant is excited about their first year participating in the event.
"People don't go out that often in January and February, they like to stay indoors," Lewandowski said.
One of the goals of Devour Downtown is to help Hoosiers forget about their winter blues and find something fun to do.
Some restaurants, including Palomino and Adobo Grill, extend an invitation beyond dinner and offer a special $20 lunch menu as part of the event. For an even greater value, eateries such as BARcelona Tapas and Smokehouse on Shelby provide guests with two entrees for $30.
No tickets or coupons are required to take advantage of this opportunity. Simply visit the restaurant of your choice and ask for their special menu.
Gift certificates worth $30 will also be given away daily for the duration of the event by completing a contest form on the Devour Downtown Web site.
Originally titled Indy Restaurant Week, this exclusive program began in 2005. Within two years, the event extended from one week to two. It also expanded to occur twice a year, allowing Indy residents and visitors the chance to participate in both winter and summer seasons.
