2 stars (R) Jason Statham
Remember the 1975 black-comedy cult favorite "Death Race 2000," about a cross-country race where points are awarded based on the number and type of pedestrians the driver hits? Well, forget about it. This generic "remake" is mostly straight-faced, with the accent on macho posturing and high-octane, adrenaline-fueled blah blah blah. Jason Statham ("The Transporter") plays the poor guy framed for murder and then railroaded into participating in the race by evil prison warden Joan Allen. Yes, Joan Allen. You want big, dumb, violent action and a few memorably bad quotes? Here you go. 105 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes a commentary track with director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt and several featurettes. The unrated edition also includes the theatrical version of the film.
