Cassandra Thomas at Funkyard

When: Feb. 1-28, 7-10 p.m. 2013
Thomas is a self-taught painter from Fountain Square. She will be presenting a series of paintings based on memories from her childhood, the place in her mind where those memories are stored. Cassandra has created a subconscious character called "The Gardener" who's purpose is to tend to & maintain her memories so that they always remain the way she saw them as a child. The colors in the garden are vivid, & crisp, much like the Indian Summers in her grandfather’s backyard. Larger than life flowers are encased in overflowing strands of bright green ivy representing the bold embellishments of her imagination as a child. The Gardener takes on the form of the flowers, the ivy & the sky as she tends to them. The Gardener’s hands are always some form of delicate flower bud representing the care she takes in protecting Cassandra’s memories.
