Can't miss June 2016 brewing events and new brews in Indianapolis 

June 21 & 22: Indiana Humanities and Sun King Brewing Company “Duck & Cover: A Historic Bar Crawl through Cold War Indianapolis” along Mass Ave. from 6-9 p.m. each evening. Beer in hand, participants will start and end at the IndyFringe Theatre and journey to four different locations to learn about the brave men and women whose vigilance kept Indianapolis “safe” from the Red Menace, and hear about the spies and Communist sympathizers that tried to infiltrate the heartland. Reservations required.

June 25: Chilly Water, all day 2nd Anniversary party starting at 11 a.m. highlighted by 20 beers on tap. Owner Skip DuVall says, “Look for some old favorites like our Barrel Aged Doppelbock from 2014, Enjoy the Silence Belgian Dubbel and the famous Coconut Porter. We will also have our Berliner Weiss that we did with Bare Hands Brewery out of Grainger, IN. Lastly, Dan is brewing a special 2 year anniversary beer made with 2 kinds of malt, 2 different hops AND 2 different yeast strains.” Skip adds, “Summer's here; our city is full of great places to drink beer outside so venture out onto the Cultural Trail and explore Indy.” May 2016 Chilly Water expanded with two new 15bbl tanks to nearly double production. One Hop Wonder IPA has become their top selling brew.

[image-7]June 25: Sun King 7th Anniversary & Grapefruit Jungle release, starts 4 p.m. at Sun King Brewery downtown Indy.

June 25 & 26: Starting June 25 at 2 p.m. through June 26 at noon [EDT],  North Vernon: Fermentation Celebration 2016—Indiana’s Newest Beer & Festival - with the option to Camp. “Fermentation Celebration, hosted by Old Vernon Liquors, is a beer and wine tasting event located at the beautiful Muscatatuck Park & Campgrounds in North Vernon, Ind.,” reads the notice.


This one of kind tasting will be featuring 35+ (and still counting) national and local breweries and wineries. The tasting will include: food, live music, a charity swag raffle, games and [other] activities. Camping is included with each ticket purchase. Come try UNLIMITED samples of over 100 of your favorite regional beers and wines.

At the conclusion of the tasting there will be an evening concert and beer garden - this is set to start at 7pm. Event proceeds will help fund Muscatatuck Park's new children’s playground and equipment as well as the Jennings County Youth Foundation.

June 29: Deviate Brewing Co. at 6:30 p.m. hosts Girls Pint Out “Beer Education: How Do you make this oddball beer” featuring Deviate brewmasters Greg Ortwein and Mike Orkey.

Newest Brews

Deviate has ‘Ball Balls Blueberry Imperial Stout at 9.6%ABV among others. Biggest news, Tulip Tree Creamery is making cheese with Deviate beers. Look for it end of June.

Sun King Fishers features small batches brewed on-site: Hefeweizen One, Two & Three and Maibock along with regulars and specials brewed downtown and served on tap and available in cans and growlers for carryout. 

Bloomington Brewing Company now has 10-Speed Hoppy Wheat in 4-pack cans. The description isn’t just hype, it’s what you expect starting with the visual - translucent and gold-hued - and aroma -citrus and juicy pineapple atop a whiff of wheat — and taste —earthy pine and tropical fruit. By popular demand Vanilla O’Floyd’s is back. Lennie’s newest culinary treat is Fried Rooftop Pickles—home pickled with BBC Rooftop IPA, hand-breaded and fried.

Grand Junction Brewing Company head brewer Shawn Vessel and Great Fermentations head brewer Wes Martin created a collaborative brew, Hop the Atlantic.

Oaken Barrel Seasonal Beers on now are Nitro Irish Red Ale and King Rudi Hefeweizen.

tate Fair Brewers Cup Gold Medal Agrarian Queen Farmhouse Ale described as “refreshingly dry with funky and citrusy characteristics from the Saison yeasts and Saphir hops.”

Half Moon’s newest seasonal, Thor’s Thunder “honors our resident Viking, Thor Ericson (aka - Rambo), we have created an Imperial Honey Wheat beer. As the number 9 is sacred amongst the Viking folk, we used 9 gallons of honey for this regal brew. Get refreshed with the light bodied yet highly potent Thor's Thunder," says brewery owner, John Templet.

Another I.P.A. is full-bodied with a delicious malty backbone. The Simcoe hops give earthy, citrus and piney characteristics to the aroma and flavor. “At Half Moon we are always trying to come up with a new way to build and brew Another I.P.A. Cheers!” offers John.
