3.5 stars (R) George Clooney
The new offering from the Coen brothers isn't a comedy in the traditional sense. The movie is primarily an elaborate goof, with a number of very foolish people getting into trouble. The characters are nearly as extreme as those in "Raising Arizona" and the tone is similar to "Fargo" but wispier. It's not one of the Coen brothers' best films, but it's entertaining as all get out and boasts a lot of striking performances from its powerhouse cast, which includes George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinson, Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins and J.K. Simmons. Prepare for 97 minutes of nuttiness and a wonderfully abrupt closing scene. DVD INFO: Includes a making-of piece and two other featurettes.
