Broad Ripple Music Fest at the Indianapolis Art Center

When: Sat., Oct. 16 2010
Price: Free.
The Fest expands to the Indianapolis Art Center to offer an early-afternoon, family-friendly event that includes music and arts and crafts (hosted by Handmade Promenade, which also promises to offer wares at the Standard/Indie Volumes showcase). We're comfortable with labeling both Bashiri Asad and Sarah Grain soul singers -- the latter, who compares easily to Donnie Hathaway, is more of the R&B side of soul; but Sarah Grain packs plenty of emotional power into her easy-going folk song. The showcase also features Hotfox, that gang of now college-aged indie rockers who graced the cover of NUVO earlier this year, before heading south en masse to attend IU-Bloomington.
