For a man whose claim to fame is co-hosting season one of American Idol
, it wasn’t as horrible as you might think. Dunkleman’s talent lies in non-sequitur ramblings of light-hearted fun; he compared John McCain to both the Werther’s candy man and Abe Simpson, and momentarily won my affinity. However, his barrage of awful puns would be better suited for a Laffy Taffy candy wrapper (i.e. “I thought a 401k was a really long race”), and his contrived, lisp-y delivery ran its course after the first 20 minutes. American Idol came up more often than anyone cared for, and his grand finale was a series of gay-bashing jokes about Ryan Secrest; it was not so much brave or shocking as it was embittered and obvious. He also — perhaps unintentionally — dropped a Cartman impression. Yipes.
