Big screen: 'This American Life'

You don't have to travel all the way to New York University's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts to see the live rendition of the award-winning radio program This American Life. April 23, experience the Chicago-based radio program on the big screen from the comfort of your very own local movie theater. Beginning at 8 p.m., the exclusive, one-night-only event will be sent live via satellite to over 400 select movie theaters nationwide, including three Indianapolis area theaters and one Noblesville area theater.

This American Life is typically an hour-long radio show, which features vividly narrated journalistic, non-fiction stories. The show will be extended to two hours for this special event. Just like the weekly broadcast, host Ira Glass and popular show contributors -- Dan Savage, Starlee Kine, Mike Birbiglia and others -- will perform profound stories based on a "Return to the Scene of the Crime" theme.

Visuals will be provided by Chris Ware and Arthur Jones with a special musical performance by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon.

This American Life hit the big screen for the first time in 2008 with much success. "This year we're excited to do a full-on stage performance of the radio show," said Glass in a press release.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at presenting box offices. For tickets online, visit For more information about This American Life, visit Participating local theaters: AMC Castleton Square 14, Regal Galaxy 14, Kerasotes Indianapolis Showplace with IMAX and Hamilton 16 with IMAX.
