Over the past few years, traffic signal boxes have morphed into one-of-a-kind art pieces along Irvington's thoroughfares. Nineteen boxes have been transformed in all, and the organization behind the effort, Foundation East, recently completed a campaign to clean, repair and protect the boxes, freshening up the colors and adding a layer of clear coat finish. That clear coat is important; it'll make it easier to restore the boxes if vandals strike again, as they did at the close of last year, defacing several boxes (but not permanently; the community outcry was impressive, indicating just how well-loved the boxes are).
