Best Local Rock Artists

Stereo Deluxe

Call it the NUVO cover bump, or maybe we're just tapping into the zeitgeist, but power-pop golden boys Stereo Deluxe won their first award for best local rock band after gracing the front of these pages this spring. The occasion: the band's second album, When The Party's Over, a collection of solid alt-rock-inspired tunes that includes the civic pride anthem "Southside Stomp," devoted to the land where the four Perry Meridian graduates grew up and still call home. Lead singer Jay Elliot, who hosts a Tuesday night open stage at Lizards on Madison Avenue, told NUVO that he's "claiming the Southside" on behalf of his band. www.stereodeluxemusic.com

Second: Margot & the Nuclear So and Sos

Third: Last Good Year
