Beer Buzz

"We finally named our pale ale!" announced Upland Brewing Company spokesperson Scott Johnson. "Helios, Greek god of the sun, is the same exceptional recipe as our 2003 Great American Beer Festival silver medal winner." Johnson explains the name Helios reflects Upland's 2009 installation of solar water heating at the Brewery, 350 W. 11th St., in Bloomington. Ten solar water tube panels "grace Upland's roof, replacing a large portion of our natural gas needs for heating water. Helios is brewed with the finest Midwestern malts, citrusy American hops, Upland house yeast blend, pure Bloomington water and a dash of sunshine. Cheers to the unconquerable sun god!" Helios is available in six-pack bottles and draught starting in early March. Look for it with bright new artwork on bottle labels, six-pack carriers and handles for draught.

On March 6, from 7-10 p.m., Upland is releasing their 2009 Infinite Wisdom Tripel and hosting Tripel label artist Norton Wisdom, whom the brew is named after. The event is in the banquet hall (located in the back of the parking lot) at 350 W. 11th St., Bloomington. Wisdom has become famous for his live painting, having performed for Cirque du Soleil, the 2002 Winter Olympics opening ceremony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Butoh dancers in Japan, the National Bamboo Orchestra in Bali, in addition to musicians such as Nels Cline of Wilco, Charles Owens, Badal Roy, Rob Wasserman, Daniel Lanois, Ivan Neville, George Clinton, Beck, Jaguares and Lili Haydn.
