Beer Buzz: New brews + free beer pairing at CNO

Broad Ripple Brewpub kicks off its 25th anniversary March 20 with an open house showcasing its interior makeover (check out the spiffy restrooms) and four distinctive single-hop brews by BRBP’s sixth headbrewer Jonathon Mullens. The single-hopped brews include:

Mosaic hops, recently released by Yakima Chief Ranch in Washington State. It is an all-purpose aroma, flavoring and bittering hop with a complex aroma and finishes clean. The delights of Mosaic prompted Mullens to create a quartet of single-hop brews. ”I want our patrons to experience the distinctive qualities of signature hops.”

Fuggle hops has been a “cornerstone of English brewing since the late 1800’s,” explains Mullens. Fuggle’s mild, woodsy and herbal aroma opens into a malt-centric, low alcohol ale.

Cascade hops, developed at Oregon State University in the 1970s, is embraced by homebrewers for its distinctive aroma, flavor and bittering qualities.

Polaris hops, developed in Germany around 2012, is also highly aromatic with pleasant mint overtones. Mullens describes Polaris as temperamental with an attitude toward mating with malts and yeast.

After a five-year run, Cutters Brewing has closed its doors. We look forward to its recipes re-appearing, especially give their specific connection to Southern Indiana.
