Birdy’s Bar & Grill
Friday, May 11, 9 p.m., $5
The third installment of the first round of the 2007 Indymusicscene.com Battle of Birdy’s goes down this Friday. A fistful of bands will try their hands at winning this bracket of the tournament. Bands competing include 806 Main Street, 7 Days Away, the 4-Seamers, Better than Medicine, The B-Sharps and Prizzy Prizzy Please.
While technically a Bloomington band now, Prizzy Prizzy Please was born and raised in Indianapolis and is stoked to be battling back on its home turf. After graduating from the IU house-party scene, Prizzy has been slowly accumulating a strong fan-base and a reputation for a solid live show. With notable influences ranging from the Pixies and the Talking Heads to Prince and Queen, it is nearly impossible to shrug off Prizzy as “just another college band.”
Thanks to a self-released debut and a split EP (with Illinois goof-punks the Sass Dragons on Let’s Pretend Records), and a new album on the way, the Prizzy boys are busy making a name for themselves.
No matter whom you’re rooting for Friday, come to Birdy’s and watch the battle. Regardless of who wins or loses, this is one battle in which the audience is sure to come out on top.
Editor’s note: NUVO punk writer Nick Selm chose Prizzy Prizzy Please as the No. 1 punk band in Central Indiana in the 2007 Nightlife Guide. To support more local talent, check out round one’s Battle of Birdy’s fourth installment on Friday, May 18. Part five takes place on Friday, May 25.
