Chapman is expected to be called up to the majors by mid-season, after signing a six-year contract worth well over $40 million including his signing bonus and incentives. Tonight is the only time he is expected to play in Indianapolis, as most baseball analysts predict that he will be called up to Cincinnati by May or June—and the Bats will not face the Indians at Victory Field again until well after that.
All eyes will be on a particular matchup this evening, when the Indians own hot-shot prospect Pedro Alvarez steps up to the plate. Alvarez usually bats clean-up and has major power, but struggles against southpaws. He is also expected to be in the majors by June or July, and since the Pirates and Reds are in the same division, this might end up being the first of many epic meetings between the two stars.
Tonight’s game begins at approximately 7 pm, and tickets start at $9. Tonight is “Thrifty Thursday.” In celebration of the 15th season at Victory Field, the Indians are offering a special Thrifty Thursday package, where fans get a reserved seat ticket, a hot dog, pop, and an Indians' souvenir item for just $15.
