Album review: 2 Mics and a Kit, "Fist Fill of Change"

Bloomington's 2 Mics and a Kit (2mk) recently released their latest album, Fist Full of Change, for free online. The group's nom de plume also works as a stage plot; one drum kit player and two MCs, in addition to the occasional keyboard or bass sample. But if you're going to bill yourself that way, the players better bring it, and this album falls short. Timing is a consistent problem here, with the samples shifting in time and the kit player attempting to keep up and adjust. The rappers light/bright/kite rhyme schemes don't help the cause, either. Whatever was working for this group live did not translate to this recording.
