The Koelschip gets top billing in Draft Magazine “Best Beer Bars Midwest” in their annual 100 best beer bars roundup. Stop in at 2505 N. Delaware St., to see the two-page spread.

Draft Magazine also highlights 10 tropical fruit beers with first mention going to Upland Kiwi Lambic, with this description: “The addition of whole kiwis gives this neon yellow lambic-style ale from Bloomington, Indiana, a bright, pulpy fruit flavor. Sour lovers will clamor for the beer’s tongue-puckering acidity; grab one during Upland’s bottle lottery in July.” More here.

JULY EVENTS

July 1: Indiana City teamed up with Kuma's Corner for “Big Business: A Collaboration Brew” to be tapped at Kuma's in Fountain Square. “Hear the bands [Big Business] newest album Command Your Weather, before it is released to the public on July 8.”


July 2: Flat 12 Bierwerks, Red White & Brew; 12-8 p.m., 21+ FREE EVENT LINK

“A backyard-style party, live music by Big Foot Yancey, lawn games (giant beer pong, ping pong and corn hole), a corn hole tournament with prizes, a 18” Hoagie & Hops eating contest, and our summery Dan Patch Wit release. Dan Patch Wit — In honor of a Hoosier icon, the fastest race horse in Indiana history, this Belgian-style easy drinker features a blend of chamomile, orange peel and coriander.”

July 3: Red Wine and Brew at the LaPorte Fairgrounds (Pioneer Land) 2581 IN-2, La Porte, IN, 3-9:30 pm. “A 40-year tradition brought to you by the LaPorte Jaycee’s and Bethany Church. Nashville’s HOTTEST Rising Stars will be in LaPorte for this year’s Red Wine and Brew. Located in the Pioneer Land area of the LaPorte Fairgrounds, you can pull into the fairgrounds to park near the quaint buildings of Pioneer Land, where you will see them transformed to craft beer saloons with some rocking country/classic rock on the stage at the end of the street.” Get your tickets here.

July 4: Triton emailed: “Happy Independence Day as we commemorate the 240th Anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776! Happy Birthday U.S.A!”

July 4: Oaken Barrel 22nd annual ‘Pork of July’ Party, noon to 4 p.m. celebrating the founding day of Oaken Barrel in 1994. The buffet features Roasted Pig, Teriyaki Chicken, Bratwurst, corn on the cob, mac & cheese, baked beans, and tuxedo cake for dessert. Cost is a mere $10 per person. Featured beer is the multiple-award-winning Meridian Street Lager.

July 4: Indiana City releases Independence IPA 2016, a Rye IPA brewed with American malted rye and barley along with American grown hops. Part of the Full Metal Fourth Celebration.

July 9: Sugar Creek Malt Co. in Lebanon, annual open house 4-8 p.m. “features beers made with our malt, compliments of the breweries that have been working with us for a year now.” Learn more here or call 765-894-2461

July 9: Indiana Brewers’ Cup Competition Reception celebrating winners of the 18th Annual Homebrew and Professional Competition at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in the Agriculture-Horticulture Building. July 9: Indy Eleven Fall Season home opener vs. Minneapolis FC, at The Michael A. Carroll Stadium at IUPUI, 7:30 p.m., preceded by Craft Beer Night presented by Murello’s Bail Bonds Union Jack Pub.

July 23:  Christmas in July at Flat 12, noon-4 p.m. $15 | 21+ | TICKET LINK

“Features 11 specialty and barrel-aged varieties of our epic Pinko! Russian Imperial Stout for our 2nd Annual Christmas in July event. Enjoy the Christmas-time festivities in Santa's Lounge (our  30,000 cubic foot cooler) while sipping on some of our rarest beers in your ugly Christmas sweater. July 30: Brewers' of Indiana Guild's Microbrewers Festival at Military Park benefits Brewers of Indiana Guild and features beers from 77+ Hoosier breweries (out of a total 100+ breweries pouring at the event). Tristan Schmid touts the cask tent as his “favorite part” of the festival. Beyond that, folks can play "hammer-schlagen"—a game where people challenge each other to see who can hit a nail into a large block of wood first—and other interactive components, like a photo booth.
