A strand in the rope
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
What is a rope?
It Binds and is a life Line
Bound to Bind
The Life Line 1: a line (as a rope) used for saving or preserving life: as a : a line along the outer edge of the deck of a boat or ship
b: a line used to keep contact with a person (as a diver or astronaut) in a dangerous or potentially dangerous situation
2: something regarded as indispensable for the maintaining or protection of life
The more strands you have the stronger the rope. The stronger the rope, the more weight can lift.
When a person is hanging from a cliff and in need of a rope, the color won’t matter. But if there are not enough strands and the rope breaks, both the rope and those in need will perish.
Wendy dared to reach across the isle and Tamiko reached back. Martinsville walked across those few strands, bringing a few more strands which allowed Christian Community to cross back over that string bringing and few more strands, strands became strings, and strings became a rope. The rope is now place but the question is who among you are willing to cross the isle and how many strands will you bring …
A life, a group, a family, a Church, a city, a state, a nation that refuses to reach across the isle cannot change nor can it effect change because changes require that things be different.
Time keeps changing vs. the Good Old Days
2 Timothy 4:1-8
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
The Novelty of Unity Sunday has worn off. Thank God …
The Life Line
Is a line used for saving or preserving life: as a: a line along the outer edge of the deck of a boat or ship …
Is a line used to keep contact with a person in a dangerous or potentially dangerous situation …
Is something regarded as indispensable for the maintaining or protection of life …
In order to have a life line, you must have a rope, in order for there to be a rope you must have strands bound together and in order for the line to save life the line must be anchored and then the anchor must hold.
Well let me close by saying our anchor will hold because His name is Jesus. And the rope extended by Him is called the love of God. It has been woven with stands like faith, hope, love, kindness, goodness, joy, peace, happiness, patience, gentleness and the greatest stands of all Grace and Mercy …
The question is are you just a strand or are you a strand in the rope?
