Musicians for Kids Birdy's Sunday, Dec. 19 2004 saw a lot of positive things happen for Indy's music community. The Indy MP3 project, the Midwest Music Summit and several regional and national touring successes have come the way of Otis Gibbs, The Shivers and Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. Now it's their turn to give some of that goodwill back to the city and some of the city's neediest children during the season of giving. That's why Big Damn Band member Breezy Peyton called together an impressive roster of Indiana's top musicians to raise money for the Needy Family Fund of Decatur Township. "The main reason we decided to do this was that the Big Damn Band had such a great year," Breezy explained. "We wanted to find a way that we could use our music to repay all the good things that had been done for us. "I grew up in Decatur Township," Breezy continued. "I saw a lot of these families and kids first-hand because my mom had been involved with the Needy Family Fund for years." The Needy Family Fund began some 25 years ago, instigated by several township bus drivers who, Breezy said, "started a little fund to help out some of the kids on their routes that were lacking coats or were being picked up and dropped off at houses with no working utilities." The benefit's impressive roster includes the Big Damn Band and Otis Gibbs. The lineup also includes Battle of the Bands finalists The Shivers and The Common as well as Arminta and Blaq Lilly, the Shadyside All-stars, The Tumbleweeds, Deacon Sean, Joel Weir, Kit Malone and Jethro Easyfields. The show starts at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at Birdy's and the cover is a mere $5. Birdy's, a tireless supporter of these kind of benefit shows, is once again donating all the proceeds from the door to the Needy Family Fund.
