The call for Pence to reject the Preschool Development Grant was made by a bi-partisan group of people. As one of the groups advocating for Pence to reject the grant, Hoosiers Against Common Core has supporters from both the left and the right. It is composed of parents and teachers who advocate against the federal intrusion in education that has brought about high-stakes testing and a one-size-fits all style of education. If reporters would actually read the grant, they would understand it for what it is- the creation of the same undesirable environment older children experience for the youngest of our children. Additionally, Indiana was only budgeted to receive between $5 to $20 million if the award was granted. The $80 million figure being reported counts funding that has yet to be appropriated by Congress. Counting dollars yet to be appropriated by an overly dysfunctional Congress is disingenuous.
Great article by Senator Scott Schneider.
