Bravo!
The worst part of commuting by bike is arriving and realizing you don't want the ride to end just yet.
Eating for riding is tricky until you understand the role of carbs and protein. Your exercise is fueled by carbs. Cereals (grains) turn into blood sugar quite rapidly giving a you a quick boost but no fuel for later. Adding proteins (such as your nuts or eggs) makes those same carbs process much slower making them convert to blood sugar over a longer period. As your mother probably told you, eat a balanced breakfast!
Thanks for the mention of the Courteous Mass Ride. Let me correct you however in that it's moved to the 2nd Thursday at 6pm as to better fit everyone's schedule. Thus freeing up Fridays for all the wonderful things you can ride your bike to these days. Keep up the riding! It's its own reward!
Welcome to the growing community of cyclists! Please visit theindycog.com to keep up with all the efforts to maintain and enlarge the biking infrastructure around Indianapolis. Joining IndyCog is a good idea as well. Have fun!
Re: “Most transit naysayers lack credibility”
Why don't we ask all the congressmen and senators to ride the bus in from wherever the enter the county (or closest to their house?) Let them experience non-car transit for themselves. Call it Transit Day or something. Maybe assign them a volunteer rider to assist them with figuring it out.
