I never missed reading Steve's column even though I very rarely agreed with him. The reason in a word was that Steve was entertaining.
What do Marilyn Monroe, Mary Jo Kopechne, Juanita Broaddrick, Eileen Wellstone, Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinski, Martha Moxley, Patricia Bowman, and Elizabeth Edwards have in common? Hint: they weren’t victims of a Republican war on women.
Steve,
Did you forget about the Montgomery bus boycott of 1955 when you wrote this column?
It is true that the gun lobby is well funded, but that alone will not always carry the day. An organization such as NAMBLA could have ten times the funding of the NRA, and still wouldn’t get to first base in Congress. The truth is that Americans have always loved their guns and always will. We don’t worship them as Steve says, but we love them, and the romance never dies. What Steve couldn’t bring himself to say is that the love cuts across virtually all demographics.
This doesn’t bode well for the Motel 6 franchise in Illinois.
Mike,
In this particular case, why not? Some men, because of their actions, stand outside the realm of humane treatment. Besides, the sight and smell of a publicly rotting corpse might discourage the next wave of child porn.
Re: “The Quest to Live Unafraid”
I have to ask how many of the 30% who were deported for traffic offenses were for DWI? Is Mr. Guerrero suggesting that driving while intoxicated is not a threat to the community?
