This celebration of Black History Month will provide you with a day full of family fun and a new appreciation for the long history of African-American artists here in Indiana.

With an array of anti church state legislation in Indiana, it has never been more important for Hoosiers to step up and defend the wall between church and state.

Indiana Civics Days is an all day conference that will feature speakers addressing the workings of our Indiana State Legislature and Church State issues prominent in Indiana right now. The main topics covered will be Reproductive Rights, LGBT Rights, and School Vouchers.

Confirmed speakers are: Barry Lynn, Executive Director, Americans United for Separation of Church and State; Ron Lindsay, CEO of CFI; Betty Cockrum, CEO, Planned Parenthood of Indiana; David Sklar, Director of Government Affairs, Jewish Community Relations Council;, Rick Sutton, President, Indiana Equality Action; Robert Enlow, President & CEO, Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice; Joel Hand, Attorney; Indiana Coalition for Public Education.

The morning session will be in the North Atrium of the Indiana State House, 402 West Washington, Street, Indianapolis and the afternoon session will be at the Indiana State Library, 315 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis. These two venues are across the street (Senate Avenue) from each other.

This event is sponsored by the Indiana Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Center for Inquiry.

Dance Magic is hosting a large vendor fundraising fair in an effort to raise money to support our dancers that will be performing in London at the 2012 Summer Olympics. There will be 25 vendors participating in this event to assist our dancers with their dream of dancing in London! Several vendors have already committed, Asabella skin care, House of 5th urban clothing, Premier Jewelry, En Route Spa, Thirty One, Tastefully Simple, The Snappy Dresser, Usborn Books, Miche bags, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, and various handmade items created just for us!

Aligning with Love: Yoga Flow with Laura Henderson

Growing Places Indy and the Indy Winter Farmers Market have partnered with the Bike Hub YMCA to offer fitness and fundraising classes. Each class will be by-donation (suggested donation of $10). Donations go to the Eat Well Initiative that makes it possible to use food stamps at the IWFM and distributes Veggie Bucks vouchers to low income and high health risk individuals to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the IWFM. You do not need to be a member of the Y to attend these classes. Victorian Valentine Workshop at the Johnson County Museum

Children of all ages are invited to create a one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day card on Saturday, February 11th from noon to 1:00 pm, at the Johnson County Museum in Franklin. Visitors will learn a little background of the history of Valentine’s Day, see some beautiful antique cards from the Victorian era for inspiration, and create a holiday masterpiece to give to family or friends. The Victorian Valentine workshop is free of charge, and all you need to bring is your imagination!

The Indy Hostel presents an Art Show featuring Meg Rainwater

The Indy Hostel is pleased to be hosting its next installment in a series of art show opening events! Join us for a lively art show featuring work by Meg Rainwater.

Meg Rainwater is a freelance graphic designer, painter, illustrator, and writer/poet who resides in Indianapolis. Most of her current work deals with the subject of dreams. Rainwater explains that, “My dreams continue to blow my mind almost every night and I want to let the viewer into this amazing realm of transcendentalism.” She aims to not only please the eye of those who view who work, but also to distract their mind in order to discover the true meaning of the piece.

Bring your friends and join us at the Indy Hostel on February 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. where Meg Rainwater’s work will be for sale and on display. The artist will be on hand for questions and refreshments will be provided. The paintings will remain on display for the entire month of February.
