Re: “Goodbye, Indianapolis

hammer, one time 9circa 1997) you were smoking a cigarette behind the dumpster at the old nuvo in broad ripple. i was telling you about something and you looked at me and said 'you're a rennaissance man.' i've never forgotten that and work hard to live up to it.

from my perspective you were a cipher. and i say that in the fondest way. it was true that people who worked with you hardly knew steve hammer. but that was all the better as it was your voice in print that was the only steve hammer i think you wanted us to know. and that steve hammer was brilliant.

as a side note, in latter years a friend of mine worked at nuvo and casually mentioned he had went to your apartment. that shocked me. i've always wondered what you saw in him that made you want to let him into the private steve hammer's lair.

we were both blessed to work with Harrison, i miss his towering genius to this day. best wishes my friend and go with god.. we hardly knew ya :)

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

Bring back Hammer on a weekly basis. Nuvo without Hammer is like a bottle of tequila without the worm.

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

Well, whatever Steve, but there are a million reasons the Beatles were better than the Bee-Gees. Nothing against the Gibb Brothers, but the Fab Four spawned countless imitators around the world and actually started the rock revolution the BGs took a ride on. Read about it in the thousands of books and websites devoted to telling the story. The multi-multi billion dollar music/culture industry of Rock was Elvis born, and Beatles rocket launched.

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

Miss you, Hammer! Yours was always the first thing I turned to when I picked up NUVO, followed by Hoppe. Now, weeks go by before I even bother to take a NUVO out of a corner box. The paper has changed. And, for me at least, not for the better.

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

Again, no specifics. Guess Steve was right on the "haters never quit" take.

Ed Wenck... Maybe because Nuvo has really gone down hill on your watch. Perhaps your resume should be dusted off and prepared?

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

While I do appreciate the feedback, I'm wondering what the specific beefs are with Hammer's words above. "Douchier? Fat ass? Shame?" I'm not getting it.

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

A mile and a half... I bet the ones on here complaining that Hammer doesn't walk that far, drive their cars a half mile to get their nutty bars, cigarettes, coffee and playgirl mags. Get a life.

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

I luv ya and miss ya Steve! Awesome article.

I wouldn't walk either, walking 1.5 miles to work with a 115° heat index is not a good idea....for anyone.

He works a mile and a half from his office and only sometimes walks. Still a fat ass!

Re: “Steve Hammer: Hoosier turned Texan

damnit. Why can't we just be done with Steve Hammer. I didn't read the article. I just clicked on it so NUVO would stop publishing him. I stopped reading this dirt mag years ago... picked it up again when i heard he was gone. Now you lost me forever.
