I've been writing about this for several years in Muncie Voice (http://muncievoice.com), and this only scratches the surface to the damage been done in Indiana by the Koch brothers. Guess who benefits from our 90% energy dependence on coal? The Koch's and Duke Energy who both pad Pence's campaign with dollars. Koch's also fund the State Policy Network which includes the Indiana Policy Review which has free access to write their propaganda in Gannett owned newspapers across Indiana, including the IndyStar.
The $900 million is just what you can trace, because they also funnel money to the Republican Governors Association who then dispurses cash to individual republicans.
To add more salt to the wound, Governor Pence has invited the Koch's personal economist, Arthur Laffer, to establish our tax reform policies. Laffer was Reagan's economist who created "trickle down economics" with Milton Friedman. The whole idea is make life better for the wealthiest Americans and corporations, and we all prosper. It's a sham! It was disproven by Thomas Piketty's book released last year. Piketty assigns the blame to Laffer and his faulty economic proposals for the worst income and wealth inequality this country has ever witnessed.
So yes, it's going to get much worse for Hoosiers.
The best way to keep corporations from controlling our state is to stop voting for legislators who are members of ALEC. Legislators who are members of ALEC take bills written by industry executives and lobbyists and submit them as if they were their own ideas to the statehouse to be voted into law. This is the most egregious betrayal of their duty to their constituents, and it should not be rewarded with reelection. Pence belongs to ALEC. Rokita belongs to ALEC. Both submit bills written by multi-billion dollar corporations - bills that benefit those corporations to the detriment of citizens.
Billionaires buying politicians is always bad, but especially so when they are trodding on the civil rights of other human beings or when they are doing so for their own greedy interests.
I had no idea about the staff connections. Thanks for keeping us informed.
Never mind various democrats' ties to Warren Buffet, George Soros, and Mike Bloomberg. Billionaires buying politicians is only bad when those billionaires have conservative politics, right?
Scary. Didn't realize he had two top Koch aides in here. Apparently intend to turn Indiana into Wisconsin. We're almost there anyway.
Really good read. I hope the people that are against this and all marijuana related topic pull their heads out of u know were read some facts. Every one in nebraska that i talk to has no idea that hemp has more then one use besides getting high on "devils lettuce"
Marijuanna would help Indiana crime & would bring so much money to community's. It's only a plant I don't understand why the government is being so dumb about this situation. Compare a Pot Dealer in jail to a crack dealer on the streets...
24% of Marion County and 18% of Hamilton Country children don't know where their next meal is coming from.
Certainly with 3% of the State as psychopaths adding up to nearly 20,000 psychos, we can be assured many of them have aspired not only to public office, but are currently in those positions, and positions of "authority".
To the rest of you:
Denying Food And Care To Children IS Denying Food & Care To Children.
Zombies Wander Indiana...
Cannabis, nor Hemp are genetically-capable to produce THC. The "active" compound is produces as a by-product of the Non-Enzymatic Decarboxylation of THCA which takes 5 minutes at 200-210C. The only THC in hemp comes from the media's pen. In the absence of THC, Laws Have No Jurisdiction Over Unalienable Rights. Most of you don't understand hemp as an energy-storage seed, and vegetable growth protein which has the characteristic of "Agglutination". Agglutination means your body expels Viral, Bacterial and Emotional waste through the bodies digestive system rather than depositing them in the kidneys to affect the body. Most of you don't understand that Wheat Gliadin, and Corn Zein protein cause you to eat nearly 400lbs more per year JUST to maintain your degradation. With growth protein this is not the case. Do a little research Indiana. You're being "murdered" virtually through your diet, and your elected officials, whether complicit or not, are supported by the companies doing it. Reality is Reality to the Conscious and Aware, but to the Perceptive Unconscious & Unaware...it is a bitch.
John Fitzgerald, where do you live in the winter?...also do you own in Long Beach?
what does the Beachfront Owners legat deed and plat of survey show? There is the answer!
250,000 acres WORLDWIDE
WORLDWIDE Hemp acreage for last decade has hovered around 2250,000 acres.
Every immigrant population that arrived in the last 400 years had hemp seed in their pockets.
I have posted this on many boards we can change history here also that all it takes is a vote to rove out the ones who don't want change senate also gov Pence against it even for vets time to remove these guys from there comfy seats
Indiana has a long history with Hemp and Marijuana, going back to at least 1821. Former slaves started the first Hemp farms in Kouts and New Liberty in that year. Conner Prairie was a major Hemp farm, and rope walks dotted the southern shore along the Ohio river. In 1903, Eli Lilly, in conjunction with Parke-Davis, developed a potent strain called Cannabis Americana at the Lilly research farm at Greenfield. I don't think these legislators are stupid. The influence of Lilly's chemical crap and the private prison system in this state, which would lose a lot of money if they can't lock up pot smokers, are the primary reasons relegalization hasn't happened.
I agree many medical benefits, and much indutrial use is no reason for all those elected officials to be rational
Keep it up.... but you are woofing at a dead tree. Our Indiana Idiots are just as ignorant as they were yester-year and will never stop trying to get back to 1950... as long as they are elected. Now... say... that's a novel idea.... maybe the citizens of Indiana could... dare I say it... un-elect them.
Mr. Hoppe's article is prose that communicates the reality of the situation in Long Beach. The fight started with one lawsuit by some Lakefront Homeowners. Everyone else wants to share our shoreline.
