Two and a half stars (R)
Gerald Butler, Lena Headley
Three hundred Spartan he-men fight damn near everybody in a live-action-against-CGI-backgrounds epic, based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel. The crayon version of the Battle of Thermopylae is so stylized that not a second of it felt real. Fans of homoerotic imagery will have fun with the near-naked muscle-bound army. It’s an overwrought beefcake bonanza, with hundreds of heaving pecs and more six-packs than at the Indy 500 the night before the race. 116 minutes.
DVD INFO: Several versions of the film are available. The widescreen two-disc special edition includes a commentary track by the director, writer and director of photography, the history of the story, featurettes, interviews and three minutes of deleted scenes.
