Urban Roots portrays the seeds of change taking root in Detroit amid the boarded-up shops, empty lots and defunct factories. With the most vacant lots in the country, Detroit residents are reclaiming their spirits by growing food. A small group of dedicated Detroiters have started an urban environmental movement with the potential to transform a city after its collapse. Winner of the Inspiring Lives Award at the 2012 San Francisco Green Film Festival. “This film feels timely and needed in our nature starved electronic world! I loved the sharing, educating and giving that these urban farmers are doing for their communities. ‘Urban Roots’ inspired me to plant more seeds in my backyard,” said actress Amber Valletta.
