10 things to do this weekend

Steve Martin and Martin Short - STEVE APPLEFORD

Here's where I preface that Tonic would be atop the list this week but it's been sold out for decades so I'm leaving it off.

1. Steve Martin and Martin Short

Nov. 21, 8 p.m. Funny guys doing funny shit. The show will include stand-up, musical numbers, film clips and conversations about their show business experiences.

2. Internet Cat Video Festival

Nov. 20-21, times vary. The IMA’s festival has three separate showings and reels featuring more than 85 videos spanning across 75 minutes, and includes everything from six-second Vine snippets to cat-centered short films. At each screening, audiences will also be treated to a pre-show introduction featuring an on-stage appearance from Bloomington’s very own Lil BUB.

3. Red Bull House of Art: Synesthesia

Nov. 21, 8 p.m. In addition to visual installations, each artist will perform live, showcasing the music that influences and inspires them. It's an immersive, abstract experience that brings the creative process full-circle.

4. Bethlehem Screening

Nov. 22, 7:30 p.m. The film focuses on two troubled thirtysomethings as they try — and fail — to put on happy faces for their mom and 26-year-old brother Bobby, who can’t shake the childlike cheer surrounding the holiday season.

5. Jason Aaron Coons

Nov. 21, 9 p.m. Indy may not have a shore, but Jason Aaron Coons' – the titular JAC – tunes are so smooth that you won't need the beach to find that chill summer mood.

6. Fall Fest 2015

Nov. 21, noon. Highlighting the event will be a lecture by world renowned poet, activist and educator Nikki Giovanni. Other performances include: North Star Capoeira, a martial art that combines acrobatics and dance with music; SITEAW Basket Balancing Race, a fun and educational sport that stems from African culture; Indy Air Bears, the electrifying competitive jump rope team; Krash Krew, an inspirational and edgy dance group; and inspired poetry readings by Brave Youth Society.

7. Uncle Kracker Nov. 20, 8 p.m.

You make me smile like the sun,
Fall outta bed
Sing like a bird,
Dizzy in my head
Spin like a record,
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool,
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold,
Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile

8. Inbal Segev

Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m. Israeli-born cellist Inbal Segev will play Shostakovich with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. I can't even play the recorder, so yeah, this sounds pretty awesome.

9. Timmy’s Organism, Raw McCartney, FYC’s, Chives

Nov. 20, 10 p.m. Mutant Fest organizer Meagan Scruggs called Timmy Vulgar of Timmy’s Organism her number one choice for her Bloomington fest earlier this year. Of the fest, she said, “It’s for the movers and the shakers, the creepers, the crawlers, the underground dwellers and the rock’n’roll goners,” she said. “It’s just for the out-of-place and the not normal.”Consider this a continuation of Mutant Fest (unofficially) because fellow mutants Raw McCartney, FYC’s and Chives will all get very weird.

10. Funksgiving

Nov. 21, 9 p.m. Last year's Funksgiving was redonkulous and this year's version may just force our government to give all of us an extra day off. Dell Zell, Audiodacity, Midwest Hype and Funky Junk all perform.
