1. Colts vs. Bears

Aug. 22, 7:30 p.m. The Colts looked ugly against the Eagles in the first game of the season, but it's the preseason, when do the Colts ever look good in the preseason? Here's your first chance to see offseason additions Frank Gore, Andre Johnson and Phillip Dorsett in person, even if it's for a very limited time. Plus, tailgate season has officially started, so grab the grill, some burgers and beer, and head out to Lucas Oil for a good time. Go ahead and keep your eyes out for our Colts preview story in next week's NUVO.

2. Hop Your Face 2015

Aug. 22, noon. This Fountain Square fest kicks off early and goes all day long with music from Coyote Armada, Howard, Captain Midnight Band, Hyryder and Kaleidoscope Jukebox. It’s year four for the Shelby Street brewery fest; FSB Co. is our go-to for cheap growler fills; plus, art by NUVO photographer Bryan Moore decorates the walls. Haven’t been to this neat spot? Saturday’s your time, my friend.

3. JBBB7 (Jay Brookinz Beat Battle)

Aug. 22, 10 p.m. We'll let battle originator Jay Brookinz himself explain what a beat battle is: “A beat battle is a production battle between people who make hip-hop beats or any kind of beats period. It’s kind of like an MC battle: you bring your beats and the other competitors bring their beats and we have judges to see who wins. In a nutshell that’s what it is." This not only sounds badass but super unique. Check it out.

4. IndyFringe

Through Aug. 23, times vary. It's the final three days of IndyFringe. We've reviewed every single show, so scrap that reason of "I won't know if I'll enjoy it or not." Support local arts Indy!

5. Jason Aldean

Aug. 21, 7:30 p.m. Damn, Aldean, you are completely killing it on the country charts. His latest Old Boots, New Dirt went platinum, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and even went No. 1 in Canada. I believe that qualifies as killing it.

6. 11th Annual SausageFest

Aug. 21-22, 5:30-midnight. This unique festival takes place during a month loaded with beer festivals, but that doesn't mean you should pass it up. They'll be plenty of activities to keep you busy when you aren't scarfing down tasty sausage from L.E. Kincaid and Sons Meat Market. And if eating is all you plan on doing, there will be live music from acts like Fabulous SausageKings and Midtown Mad Men. Bring your appetite.

7. FSDC 4 Release Show

Aug. 21, 10 p.m. You know what's great? When you can pay $5 for a tape release show, then only $5 for the tape too. Oreo Jones, Sirius Blvck, Shame Thugs, and Jo Universal play this release fest, the fourth in a series of hyper-local releases.

8. IMA Summer Nights Film Series: The Shining

Aug. 21, 7 p.m. Stephen King hates this adaptation of his hit horror novel, criticizing it as a cold, heartless piece of work. But there’s great power in the chilliness of this film, which mirrors the mindset of its main character — a hotel caretaker gone mad (Jack Nicholson). The Shining features some of the most iconic moments in the horror genre and film history, period. Before the IMA’s outdoor screening of the film, you can show off your Jack Nicholson impression in the “Here’s Johnny!” photo booth.

9. Silence! The Musical

Aug. 21-23, times vary. I'm going to be upfront here, musicals aren't my thing, but this sounds like a hell of a show.

"Rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling matches wits with the brilliant but insane cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter in order to catch the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. Clarice faces her own demons while racing the clock to unlock Lecters clues before another innocent girl is killed and skinned by Buffalo Bill."

Yeah, that's something worth seeing in person.

10. Idina Menzel

Aug. 23, 8 p.m. The voice of Elsa from Frozen (does “Let It Go” haunt your dreams too?) is much, much more than a Disney princess: she’s a Broadway queen, beloved for her roles as Elphaba in Wicked and Maureen in Rent. She’ll use her set of killer pipes to cover a setlist of classic pop and musical theater favorites, plus hits from her own catalogue. See Idina in Indy when you can: usually NYC won’t let her go (har, har).
