A place to see and be seen, this spirited and swanky homage to the former owners of Indianapolis’ most revered restaurant, St. Elmo steakhouse, offers up excellent cocktails, some of the same steaks as at St. Elmo and a few more contemporary twists. Excellent burgers and steak sandwiches as well. For starters, try the calamari ($10) or the toasted ravioli ($8). The dark décor is perfect for a romantic dinner or an intimate special event in their private dining rooms.
Although the ambience may tend towards the masculine, this is by no means a clubby kind of place. The staff is warm and welcoming, the food has wide appeal and the service is smartly efficient. Catering to power-lunchers and harried shoppers alike, Harry and Izzy’s menu, overseen by the seasoned chef Dave Foegley, offers a broader menu than St. Elmo, but retains a few of that icon’s signature dishes. the standout dish is a truly extraordinary breaded bone-in veal chop.
