Re: “Your kid and my kid are not playing in the pros

Whoever says or actually believes in this is saying this because THEY NEVER MADE IT. They're children did not make it which destroyed their own self-belief. Believe in things and you will achieve in them. This man did not become a doctor by simply dreaming about becoming a doctor, he worked hard and studied his ass off until he succeeded. Same goes for sports, if you work harder than everyone else, you will become better. There is no limit of what we can do. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

Re: “Bill would eliminate Smoker's Bill of Rights

Government needs to 'butt out' of business decisions. That would be a real improvment.

Re: “That Red Gold TV spot

It isn't Red Gold's job to sell Indiana. Since moving here I have been amazed at the beauty and opportunities that Indiana has to offer. The parks and natural resources alone are beyond compare. The unique festivals, artisans, craft breweries and more are well worth coming to Indiana for a visit, a vacation or even for a new life - as I have done. However, you never know it until you accidentally discover. Indiana is THE best kept secret in America. Your tourism department - well, do you even have one? If you want to visit a state park you have to know to go to the DNR and that site is BORING. Your visitors bureau is outdated - seriously, Honest to Goodness? Am I in Mayberry? No, I'm in one of the most progressive states in the US. The farming practices in Indiana are some of the best in nation. The crops grown here are diverse and delicious. You already have ample boards, institutions and commissions to get out the word - they just are NOT doing their jobs properly!! I don't know if it is your lack of leadership. You have had two governors more interested in playing politics rather than running the state. Perhaps you need an overall Make Indiana Better commission that will be an umbrella for all of these things but you have a marvelous state - WE have a marvelous state - that no one knows about. That, however, is not Red Gold's fault. They sold their tomatoes and that is their only job.

Re: “Your kid and my kid are not playing in the pros

Take all the money you spend on travel everything and your child will never need a loan for a college education. Save all the money that you would've spent on hotels and weekend coolers of Gatorade, food at chain restaurants and you'll be able to send your child to the college of their choice. What's more important? Being the adult or living through your child?

Also, I know that a small venue that needs added to your list is Longacre Bar & Grill at 4813 Madison Ave, that begins at 8pm for the early birds.

Re: “Democrats wanna talk pot

Marijuana is A plant!.. GOD put it here!. GOD DOESN'T MAKE MISTAKES!... Marijuana has showed more promise medically than anything I've seen!.. Both of my grandfathers died from cancer!. My grandma died from cancer! My dad has had A stroke! My mom has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma non - Hodgkin's. I think it's A bunch of bullshit that she has to do chemo because marijuana is illegal. When marijuana is 10,000 times safer and healthier!.. I think its sad when our government would rather kill our loved ones, rather than to help them. The government don't care about you or your family!... They care about putting money in their and their grandkids pockets!... It's amazing what money and greed will do to A country!....... I myself have glaucoma witch is treatable with marijuana but my concerns are for the people that are in dire straights, the people who's lives are on the line!... GOD PUT IT HEAR FOR A REASON. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT REASON WAS TO INPRISION US??????..... SURELY TO GOD YOU DO NOT!...... THINK ABOUT IT. MAYBE HE PUT IT HERE SO (THE PEOPLE) COULD CURE THEMSELVES OF HORRIBLY DISASTERIOUS DISEASES THAT CAUSE NOTHING BUT HEARTACHE AND PAIN FOR THEIR LOVED ONES ASWELL AS THEMSELVES!.... PUT YOURSELF IN THE SHOES OF SOMEONE THAT HAS JUST BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A TERMINAL ILLNESS OR DISEASE!.... DO YOU WANNA DO WHAT MAN HAS CREATED OR WHAT GOD CREATED?????? I MYSELF WOULD WANT MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS OR ANYONE TO DO WHAT GOD CREATED FOR ALL HUMANITY!....... IF A PLANT IS NOT PATENABLE HOW CAN IT BE SO INCRIMINATEING????????..................... YOUR LIFE'S SUPOSE TO BE IN GOD'S HANDS NOT IN MAN'S HANDS!!.... LEGALIZE ACROSS THE NATION. IT SHOULD OF NEVER BEEN ILLEGAL TO BEGIN WITH IN A NATION WHERE WERE SUPOSE TO BE FREE TO CHOOSE AND DO AS WE WANT!!!.....

Re: “Democrats wanna talk pot

Why should Indiana do anything progressive? But then again, it wasn't against the law in 1816 now was it?

Re: “Birdman

I believe the "oh shut up" was a comment. Not a review.

I've yet to see the movie. But spouting off you're an actor gives you no more credibility than anyone else. It's just reeks of self importance.

And the only acting credit I found for someone with your name was for a Law and Order from over a decade ago.

i'm not an actor. Yet I've somehow been in more television shows than you.

It will get zero traction and will never be heard on the floor because republican is in charge of the agenda. If it never gets on the agenda, it will never see the light of day.

Re: “Aunt Polly's Pizza

Aunt Pollys has been the best on the east side forever. The subs are awesome, the pizzas are great and the people that work there have always been nice and kind to all. I had my first pizza and sub from them back in the 70's, when they were on east washington street between the hollyoak and chester. The food is as good as it was back then and they do not skimp on the ingreants. That is still where i call when i want good food.. from fries, subs, pizza to ribs and more.

Re: “Raising Indiana's Minimum Wage

If you want us to believe your statements, then research your facts before stating them. Indiana does not have the lowest minimum wage in the country. In fact, as of 1-1-15, Georgia $5.15, Wyoming $5.15, and the following have the same min. wage as Indiana, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee do not have minimum wage requirements. I live in Indiana and am a plan manager, and we pay $10.00 starting out, which is $2.75 above Indiana's minimu wage requirement. I have interviewed 3 to 4 people a week since the middle of October of 2014. The only requirement I have is to be able to correctly measure 5 lines and show an ability to assemble parts. Since last October only one person has gotten all 5 line measurements correct. Out of the approximate 13 people I have hired in that time frame, only 4 remain, and the others I had to let go because they did not come to work consistently or on time, so there are jobs available.

Your argument has a pitfall when you complain that someone else did not meet the quotas and received the same pay as you. If you were working minimum wage, then they would logically be making the same as you. Just meeting quotas does not equate to more money. Meeting your quota equates to what you are paid to start the job. To increase your pay, you need to exceed the quota required, just meeting the minimum will get you the minimum pay. I commend anyone who furthers their education, but I also ask what education did you get that is marketable in the job market? If the education you receive is not marketable in today's job market, you will have just wasted you money. Furthering you education does not guarantee you a job if you don't meet the qualifications of the jobs available.

Not always, but on occasion, those that complain the most about being underpaid and overworked are the very workers that do the least and believe they are model workers. If you don't make what you believe you are worth, then either you are not in the right job and should find another one, or you are worth less than you think.

Re: “What they know for sure that just isn't so

Thank you so much for this wonderful article. I also found it interesting that Sen. Schneider was introducing the "religious freedom" bill now. Why didn't he introduce it last year, or two years ago? In the Indy Star articled published on December 26th, Sen. Schneider said that no one will be discriminated against. And in the same article, Micah Clark of the American Family Association of Indiana stated that "it would allow small businesses — such as bakeries, caterers, florists, and wedding chapels — to refuse services to gay couples based on the owner's religious beliefs..... It would also allow adoption agencies to refuse to place children with same-sex couples, he said." So which is it? Refusing service to someone because they are gay sounds like discrimination to me.
