Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice is one of the Bard's most problematic plays. For starters, it's a piece populated with characters we can, at various times, relate to, but with none to really root for. This all but litters the stage with moral dilemmas, if not quandaries -- challenges, in other words, that some thespians find irresistible. Butler University's theater department takes them on this week with a production directed by internationally renowned Shakespearean artist Tim Hardy. Performances are in Butler's Studio Theatre, Lilly Hall 168, Nov. 11-15. Shows are at 8 p.m. Nov. 11-14 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 14-15. Tickets are $10; $5 for students.
