Gregory Hancock’s choreography, costumes and staging are pleasant diversions to dispel winter blahs. It’s a smorgasbord of spoofery, storytelling and dancing-like-the-stars in an intimate replication of a German beer hall. (Complimentary beverages, pretzels and strudel can be enjoyed throughout.) The company opens with a rousing “Willkommen” ensemble and show-stopping solos interpreting lyrics to popular German songs. This effective take on the popular German cabaret is followed by “Sprockets,” a laugh-a-minute vamp. Natalee Wilkerson’s hip-hop choreography is fun. Act 2 opens with Heather King’s campy retelling (with a moral and social commentary) of “Hansel and Gretel.” The show closes with “The Beautiful Blue Danube” as the elegantly dressed company glides and sways to Strauss. Between the main acts, the GHDTII troupe dances as a corps to “The Lonely Goatherd” and “My Favorite Things.” The new GHDT company is sporting vigor and athleticism, adding singing and acting to dancing.
