What’s next?
The Mankind Project Speaker Series will bring Mike Murphy to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Jan. 18 for “Peak Oil and Beyond: Powering Down While Increasing the Quality of Life.”
Murphy’s experiences on a subscription vegetable farm influenced him to dedicate himself to advocating for the wisdom and satisfaction of small community living, particularly in light of diminishing global oil resources. In his talk, Murphy will discuss how we have used up about half of the planet’s oil in only about 150 years, and will likely use the remainder in the near future. Murphy will suggest appropriate alternatives, such as powering down, going local and building community.
The lecture is free, but donations are welcome. Doors open at 7 p.m. for coffee and snacks and the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. St. Luke’s is located at 100 W. 86th
