After receiving plenty of rave reviews for their 1995 album “West Coast Boogaloo,” the members of California’s funk/jazz band Greyboy Allstars went their separate ways to pursue their musical careers. The band’s namesake DJ Greyboy focused on working in the recording studio; keyboardist Robert Walter recorded and toured with several bands, including the Headhunters; and guitarist Elgin Park (aka Michael Andrews) wrote film music, including the score for “Donnie Darko.” Horn player Karl Denson went on the road with his own band, while bassist Chris Stillwell and drummer Zak Najor were a much in-demand rhythm section.

But last year, picking up where they left off, The Greyboy Allstars reunited and released their first studio album in nine years, “What Happened to Television?” The album alternates between grooving instrumentals and songs that feature solid vocal harmonics — Earth, Wind & Fire meets James Brown.
