• “Guitar Player Magazine” has chosen Indy’s own Patrick “Casey” Harshbarger of 3 Miles High to compete with nine other finalists Friday, Oct. 12 in the Guitar Hero 2007 competition. 3 Miles High will perform Friday, Oct. 5 at Moondog Tavern to support Harshbarger in his efforts.

• On Saturday, Oct. 6, celebrate the 2007 Punk Rock Night Awards, featuring performances by Evil Beaver, Pipe Bomb, Kind Deuce and The Peelers at the Melody Inn, 10 p.m., 21+.

• Griffin House, currently promoting his new album, “Homecoming,” will perform at the Hard Rock Café Indianapolis Monday, Oct. 8, with proceeds benefiting breast cancer awareness. VH1 named Griffin one of the top five best emerging artists for his soulful folk-rock. The show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10.

• Gabriel Entertainment, an Indianapolis-based computer game designer, will launch “Rock Tour” this October. The game allows players to book shows, write and record songs, promote a band and even earn money in the music industry. Music and characters are based off Indy bands Blaknote, Xero Sum and Paradise Regained.

• Chicago’s jam band Umphrey’s McGee has released “Live at the Murat,” their first official live release, recorded in April at the Indianapolis music venue.

• In an investigation into music piracy reported by “The Indianapolis Star,” local police seized nearly 10,000 CDs and DVDs from a Northeastside restaurant.

• There has once again been an attempt to try to clean up Broad Ripple Village. In the cyclical nature of the music scene, all band fliers were torn down from telephone poles over the past few weeks. This brings up the question: Will the BRVA bring back public bulletin boards to help bands advertise shows?
